Urban Imagery is an ongoing, critical art project exploring the dynamic relationship between individuals, the city, and experience. The project deconstructs the four shifting identities we assume within urban interactions: the observer, the participant, the manipulator, and the observed. Situated in the contemporary context of "experience bleaching" and ubiquitous visual consumption, it re-examines how highly homogenized human behaviors continuously reshape the urban landscape.

Chapter II, Crystal, focuses on the second identity: the individual as a "Participant" constructing the modern city. Inspired by John Urry's The Tourist Gaze, the installation challenges the traditional notion of a city as a physical entity enclosed by architecture. In the modern context, tourists' expectations and desires inversely shape the urban facade. To cater to this experiential drive, local cultures and spatial structures are constantly reinvented. Therefore, the modern city is no longer merely a stack of concrete, but an amalgamation of physical landscapes and human experiential behaviors.

In this mixed-media installation, the chemical crystallization process serves as a medium to interpret human social experience. Using concrete to represent the rigid urban foundation, the artwork materializes human "experience" into soft textiles. The crystals attached to the fabric have been cultivated and spread for over two months; their chaotic growth and crystallization metaphorically map the organic accumulation and unpredictability of human experience over time.

Ultimately, the installation presents itself as an open-ended living organism. Just as the accumulation of experience is continuous, the growth of the crystals has no absolute beginning or end. Guided by a romantic rationality, it continuously narrates the ceaseless symbiosis and co-creation between the participant and the city.
